Articulation - a formal, written agreement that identifies courses (or sequence of courses) at a "sending" institution that are comparable to, or acceptable in lieu of, specific course requirements at a "receiving" institution. Community college courses can only articulate with LOWER-DIVISION courses at receiving 4-year university/college*.
All articulation established with CSU and UC campuses are posted on ASSIST.
Agreements with Independent/Out-of-State Universities and College are posted on DAC's Transfer Site.
Accreditation - De Anza establishes agreements with regionally accredited institutions.
Articulation vs Transfer Guides - informal transfer guides may be established with non-regionally accredited institutions to support student transfer. These guides are strictly one-way in nature, meaning De Anza courses may be accepted by the receiving institutions, but De Anza will most likely not accept their courses. Guides created with De Anza's approval will clearly indicate this limitation.
Warning: some institutions post "agreements with De Anza" on their website without our knowledge or approval. We call these "unofficial transfer course equivalencies". Unfortunately we cannot police this activity so if you come across something questionable, please alert the Articulation Officer immediately.

Develop a new course based on "transfer requirement(s)" (UC Transfer, CSUGE/IGETC, major prep
requirement).
Develop a new course that's intended for transfer/articulation.
Substantially revise a course that's UC transferable (&/or) on CSUGE/IGETC (&/or) fulfills a major prep requirement.
Revise a course to be UC transferable (&/or) to be considered for CSUGE/IGETC (&/or) to meet a major prep requirement.
Need help gathering supporting evidence to validate a degree/certificate based on transfer (and, if validated, to sign off on the proposal once the required documents have been compiled).
Need help with research and/or have questions pertaining to articulation.
Note: The AO's signature is no longer required on forms. However, it is a good idea to work with the AO in order to expedite the review and processing of your course. If the AO cannot review a course before it appears on the CC agenda, questions raised by the AO that cannot be answered by the initiator may result in the course being "tabled".

Articulation Q & A
* on rare occasions “content credit” may be granted identifying a lower division community college course that is acceptable in lieu of an upper division CSU or UC course. In such cases, students receiving content credit will be required to substitute other upper division units after matriculating to the university. |
